Dr. Derrick B. Dunn - AMIE

Dean, School of Business and Technology, University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Dr. Derrek B. Dunn is the Dean of the School of Business and Technology and a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in Princess Anne, MD (www.umes.edu/sbt). Before returning to the UMES, Dr. Dunn held administrative positions at Alabama A&M University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Savannah State University.

As Dean, he is responsible for the academic and administrative leadership of the School and promotes excellence in teaching, service, advising, and research; encourages high professional and educational standards; ensures the appropriate application of university policies, including those related to faculty and students; proactively resolve conflicts and issues that may arise within the School; guide five (5) department chairpersons on matters related to curriculum development and evaluation. Additionally, he leads the school in planning strategically for its future growth and expansion through effective budget management and resource allocation, obtaining financial resources from external sources, providing leadership for student learning outcomes assessment, and monitoring specialized programmatic accreditation.

Dr. Dunn holds the following academic degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University; a Master of Science in Aviation Management and Logistics from Kent State University; a Master of Construction Management from Western Carolina University; a Master of Science in Technology Management from East Carolina University; a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Science in Mathematics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).

Dr. Dunn has extensive experience with program-specific accreditation as a faculty member, chairperson, dean, or associate vice president. He has been involved with specialized program accreditation agencies such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the American Council on Construction Education (ACCE), the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE), and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) the forerunner to Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). These experiences not only extend to program preparation for accreditation visits but also can serve as a member of the visiting teams for ABET, ACCE, and ATMAE accreditation visits. In addition to his experience with specialized program accreditation, he has been involved in regional accreditation preparation and campus visits as a faculty, chairperson, and dean.

Dr. Dunn teaches Construction Management, Cybersecurity, Global Positioning Systems, Safety Systems, and Wireless Communication Systems.
